Surfing pairs ocean awareness, patience and confidence with a deep respect for the water.
Competitive surfing asks athletes to read changing ocean conditions, select waves and perform maneuvers with speed, control and commitment. Unlike sports played on a fixed field, every heat is shaped by the ocean. Young surfers also need strong swimming ability, ocean awareness, etiquette and respect for other water users.
Surfing is a natural part of Maui youth athletics, from amateur contests to school competition.

Free after-school surfing/outdoor mentorship with transportation, gear and food. Activities combine ocean safety, teamwork and stewardship, with hikes when surf conditions are unsuitable.
