Track and field gives young athletes many ways to find their event and challenge themselves.

Track and field is really a collection of events: sprints, distance races, hurdles, relays, jumps and throws. Athletes may specialize in one event family or compete across several, and each discipline rewards a different combination of speed, endurance, power and technique. Meets allow many kinds of athletes to contribute to a team score.

On Maui, track and field is a major school sport and also offers opportunities for younger athletes to develop running and field-event skills.

Healthy Kids Running Series Maui

Pre-K–grade 8 · ages 2–14

Five weekly age-appropriate running events from short dashes through one mile, with a Challenger Division. This is a beginner running series rather than a school cross-country team or full track-and-field program.

School Programs

School teams are open to enrolled students. The athletics office can help with tryouts, clearance, equipment and practices.

The 2026 all-school track pathway pairs younger students with varsity mentors. Published Personal Best sessions: Tuesday/Thursday 6:30–7:30 a.m.; confirm current school arrangements.
